The Godfather of Street Art

Richard Hambleton is a Canadian born artist known as the Godfather of Street Art, known for his work as a street / graffiti artist.
Predating Banksy by over a decade, the late Richard Hambleton is said to have sparked the street art movement of the 80’s alongside celebrated contemporary artists such as Jean-Michele Basquait and Keith Haring.
Hambleton’s early work such as his public art series Mass Murder (1976-1978) painted a vivid impression of realistic crime. Two years later arrived the conception of his most notable work – the Shadowman (1980)
With a recurring motif of a black-silhouetted figure, The Shadowman, he incorporated the looming figures throughout Manhattan streets.
Now widely recognised as one of the founders of street art, Hambleton’s artwork is now part of many collectors’ and investors’ portfolios. Since Richard Hambleton’s death in 2017, his artwork is being heavily sought after by investors with his working increasing at a significantly faster rate than that of Basquiat or Haring. Many collectors believe that Hambleton’s works will surpass the likes of Basquiat & Haring.
